Obituary of Ilene Buchanan

Ilene Buchanan, age 88, of Sylva, NC went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, November 7, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Lillie Nations. 

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Sylva. She was retired after working in Home Health for several years. Ilene loved children and dedicated her life to serving and caring for others. She also loved working outside in her garden and her flowers. She dearly loved her family and her Lord.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers; Regal Nations, Claude Nations Jr. and Laburn Nations, two sisters; Murriel Woodard and Vera Eusantos and one half brother; Cecil Nations. 

Ilene is survived by six children: Larry (Aletta) Buchanan, Dale (the late Diane) Buchanan, Ricky (Linda) Buchanan, Patricia (Arnold) Brooks, Tim (Lisa) Buchanan and Gary (Paula) Buchanan. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren; Steven (Wendy) Buchanan, Vangie (Cameron) Jones, Jennifer (Shane) Owens, Matthew (Christie) Buchanan, Joe (Amanda) Buchanan, Brandon (Melissa) Buchanan, Jeremy (Laura) Brooks, Myra (Dewayne) Pruett, Amanda (Logan) Buchanan, Derek (Vickie) Buchanan and Jordan (Amanda) Allen. 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and two half sisters; Chera Lee Parris and Willce Nations also survive. 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 3:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Moore and Rev. Earl Holden officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 pm. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Ilene's name to: Baptist Childrens Home of NC, Broyhill Childrens Home, 111 Sneed Dr. Clyde, NC 28721 or to: St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
