Obituary of Sally Ann Horton

Longtime Whittier, N.C. resident Sally Ann Horton passed away Friday, Sept. 14 of natural causes. She was 85. Sally was born on Nov. 13, 1926 in Winchester, N.H., to parents Alton Whitney Horton and Helen Irene Bardwell Horton. Sally graduated from Thayer High School in Winchester, N.H., and then worked a number of years with New England Telephone & Telegraph Company as a telephone operator. She was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Keene, N.H., Hinsdale, N.H., Winchester, N.H., and Fort Myers and Cape Coral, Fla., over a 20-year career. She was predeceased by husbands Lawrence J. Gagne of Keene, N.H. and Fort Myers, Fla., and Richard Horton of Whittier. She is survived by her four sons: Larry Gagne and his wife Bea of Margate, Fla.; Jon Gagne and wife Ginger of Kingsville, Texas; Gary Gagne of Jamaica Plains, Mass.; and Peter Gagne and his wife Janine, of Whittier; sister, Jaclyn Helen Horton Taylor, of Winchester, N.H.; brother George Whitney Horton (deceased); brother Alton Whitney Horton Jr. (deceased); and friend and partner Burl Cook of Bryson City, N.C. Nieces and nephews include Sheron Horton-Prentice, Diana Lynn Roy-Salonen, Dennis Michael Roy, Debra Lynn Roy, and David Allen Taylor (deceased). Surviving grandchildren include Kim (Gagne) O'Leary and her husband Jay of Margate, Fla.; Darin Gagne of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Jon T. Gagne of Belleville, Mich.; and Jay Gagne and his wife Shirley of Milton, Fla., and Jonathan Gagne ( deceased). Great-grandchildren include Tavish and Keagan O'Leary of Margate, Fla.; and Jacob and Haley Gagne of Milton, Fla. A Graveside Service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Fairview Memorial Cemetery in Sylva. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 6:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services. . .
