Obituary of Walter Powers

Walter Powers passed November 12, 2019. Born in Mulberry, Florida  August 7, 1921, Walter leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Joan Bushey Kepner Powers, daughter Anne Clendinen,  sons William Powers, Daniel Kepner, Dennis Kepner, 2 granddaughters, 6 grandsons, 2 great grandsons, 2 great granddaughters.

Walter had a lifetime in the newspaper business including news bureau director, newspaper reporter, and columnist. He also worked as a stringer for Time, LIFE, Sports Illustrated, and various other periodicals. He was director of community relations and of marketing in the medical field in the Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida area. His activities have included leadership in local Kiwanis Clubs, Florida and American Hospital Public Relations and Marketing, United Way, and American Cancer Society.

A Memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday November 17, 2019 at Appalachian Funeral Home in Sylva. The family will receive friends prior to the service.
