Obituary of James Thorpe

James Isaac (Sheep) Thorpe, 86, of Lanexa, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 17, 2012 At Williamsburg Sentara Medical Center in Williamsburg, VA. Jim was a Navy veteran of 20 years, serving his country during WWII. He retired in 1986 from the NWS Fire Department. He enjoyed raising chickens to show at the Va. State Fair, and foxhunting was his favorite pastime. He was preceded in death by his son James Maurice Thorpe of San Francisco, CA. Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife of 61 years, Mary Ruth Thorpe of the home, Jeffrey Thorpe of White Plains, MD, Pamela Thorpe Williams of Zhengzhou China, and Patricia Thorpe Wallace of Hamilton, Ontario; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one sister Lucille Thorpe Phillips of Waynesville, NC. A graveside service will be held Saturday September 22nd at 3 pm at the family plot in Old Field Cemetery, Sylva, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Olive Branch Christian Church, 7643 Richmond Rd. Williamsburg, VA 23188. Arrangements are in the care of Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva, NC .
