Obituary of Marie B. Grunwell
Helen Butler Grunwell, 86, of Sylva went to her heavenly home Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Skyland Care Center in Sylva, N.C.. A native of Rockingham County, Marie was the daughter of the late John L. and Helen "Jimmie"Butler. After graduating from Reidsville High School in 1944, she moved to Arlington, VA, where she was employed by the U.S. Government Department of the Navy for approximately 40 years. While in Virginia, she met and married William T. "Bill" Grunwell,Jr..After her retirement, Bill and she grew azaleas in Fairfax County, VA. She was an active member of St. Matthews UMC in Annadale, VA. On her return to Reidsville, she rejoined First United Methodist Church.
She loved the Lord, her family, plants, dogs, crafts and visiting her friends until health problems curtailed her outside activities.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years William T. "Bill" Grunwell, her son David D. Grunwell and her brother David L. Butler.
She is survived by her son- William L. "Wick"Grunwell and his wife Sandy of Sylva, NC
Grandsons-Nathaniel Grunwell and his wife Melanie of Terry, GA
Kris Grunwell and his wife Natalie of Clyde, NC
4 Great Grandchildren
Sister-in-laws-Nancy J. Butler of Reidsville, NC, Myrtle Burke of Arlington, VA and Lois Shroff of Mexico
And many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive
A Graveside Service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Evergreen Memory Gardens in Reidsville, NC, with the Rev. Marilyn Weiler officiating
The family will greet friends after the Service at First United Methodist Church fellowship Hall.
