Obituary of Stanley Wyatt Forsyth

Stanley Wyatt Forsyth of Cullowhee, age 73, passed away due to complications of congestive heart failure on July 15, 2020 with his daughters by his side. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 23,1946 to Albert and Oma (Salyards) Forsyth. He was a loving, thoughtful, and generous father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. Following in his dad’s footsteps (who served during WWII in the South Pacific), Stan was drafted in Bucyrus, Ohio to serve in the United States Army from 1966-68 receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War in the 32nd Air Command at the missile and radar sites. He operated and worked on radios keeping communications open between missile sites and battalions. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, became a plumber by trade owning his own business, then worked with his good buddies at Tuckasegee Water and Sewer after moving to Jackson County, NC in 2001 to be near his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, fixing cars, woodworking, and being with his friends and family. However, nothing gave him greater joy in life than being with his daughters and grandchildren. He was thankful to worship online with his family through Webster Baptist Church during the pandemic in his last months of life. Stan is survived by two daughters, Tiffany (Phil) Stack of Cullowhee, NC, and Carrie (Chris) Bailey of Knoxville, TN; nine grandchildren, Taylor (Zachary) Pyle, Meredith (Zechariah) Carter, Lindsey Stack, Joshua Stack, Eli Stack, Courtney Bailey, Ty Bailey, Maggie Bailey, Lauren Bailey; two brothers, Ronnie (Phyllis) Forsyth of Whitehall, OH, Gary (Ann) Forsyth of Plymouth, MA,; sister, Linda Burkhart of Groveport, OH. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two half-brothers Albert & Harold Spang of Stevensville, MT. A light-hearted, casual memorial will be held this Saturday, July 25 in the Webster Baptist Church gym, and on Facebook Live on the Webster Baptist Church page at 6:30 pm. Burial will be held at the WNC State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain at a later date. Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva, NC is serving the family.
