Obituary of Ellen Jane Higdon

Ellen Higdon, age 88, of Sylva, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William Lee Higdon. She will be forever cherished and remembered by her children.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by three sons; Scotty Higdon, Frank Higdon, and Dewayne Higdon.

She is survived by one son; Ernie Higdon and wife, Faye Higdon and two daughters; Julia Houston and husband, Larry Houston and Mary McCurry and husband, J.D. McCurry. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.  

Mom was a devoted mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She enjoyed canning, gardening, and spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed. We have so many wonderful memories of her.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating. All attendees are requested to please wear masks and practice social distancing.
