"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord".

Joyce Mae Barrett was born on August 9,1933 in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica West Indies. She was the 4th of 10 children born to Norman and Beatrice Barrett. Joyce received her early education at Keith All Age School in the same parish.

Joyce worked as a housekeeper and cook at various resorts in Jamaica for many years. She migrated to the United States of America in 1975 where she lived in Oklahoma City for approximately 5 years before moving to North Carolina where she continued her career in the hospitality restaurant business as a private chef for over 30 years at Sylva Run Inc. In Cashiers NC until retirement.

Joyce was passionate about her work and always make sure everyone around her is well taken care of. She was very kind and was one of those person who would give you the shirt on her back and the last dime and still promise you more.

During her tenure in Jamaica, Thicketts United Church was her home church and when she moved to NC, she became an active member of the Church of Christ in Sylva NC. She spend time with members of her church doing needle work and crochet until she became ill and could no longer attend that church.

Joyce loved the Lord and would often share about the goodness of God with everyone in her path. She would always tell her son Adolph," if you don't do anything on Sunday go to church".

Joyce was a loving and kind person who cared deeply for her children and her family. She always make sure to keep in touch with everyone, either by phone or mail. She was greatly loved by her family, friends and associates because she touched the lives of everyone with prayers, encouragement and monetary gifts.
