Obituary of Richard Lee Moore
Richard Lee Moore, Sr., departed this life on September 4, 2020. He was born February 9, 1947 to George and Geneva Moore. Richard lost his parents at an early age and was raised by his Aunt and Uncle, Sydney and Evelyn Sills along with their daughter Donna.
Richard attended and graduated from Stratford High School in Stratford, Connecticut. He served one tour of duty in the Military . In 1980 he married Wanda J. Moore and to this union two children were born, Richard Lee Moore Jr. and April Chiffon Marie Moore.
In North Carolina he was employed by Western Carolina University and retired from there in 2008. Following retirement, Richard enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching his favorite TV shows, and visiting family and friends. But most of all he enjoyed cooking.
He was well known in the community because of his willingness to lend a helping hand to churches, and anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his sister Naomi and brother-in-law Richard Ferrar, Aveleno Moore "Butchy" and his stepdaughter Valerie Moore.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Wanda J. Moore; son, Richard Lee Moore Jr., (Samantha); daughters April C. M. Moore, and Ebony Perry; four grandchildren Kaden, Chauncey, Kamron, and Jaiden, a special goddaughter Nicky Sistrunk, one sister , Marybeth Sistrunk/ (John); and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday September 9, 2020 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Charles Lee and Bishop Adam West officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 am till 11:00 prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC
