Obituary of Polly Wilson

"Polly" Mary Alice Moore Wilson died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Skyland Care Center, on September 20, 2020. Polly was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Moore on February 6, 1920 in Clarkesville, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew B. Wilson; son-in-law, George A. Stillwell; brother, Alfred Moore; and sister, Tommy Heustess.

Polly is survived by her daughters, Madge Wilson Stillwell and Sally Wilson Sutton (Tommy). Also surviving are grandchildren; Matt (Lindsey) Stillwell, Luke (Jonnie) Stillwell, Jeff (Toni) Stillwell, Tyler Sutton, Tate Sutton (Kevin) Jacobs; and great-grandchildren, Branson, Carolina, Ruby Drew, and Trayton.

Polly graduated from Duke University with a BS in nursing. She then taught nursing arts at Duke. She married Andrew Wilson on December 28, 1946. In 1951, they moved to Sylva, North Carolina. She worked as a registered nurse for Dr. Roy Kirchburg and then at CJ Harris Hospital as a diabetes teaching nurse. 

Polly was a faithful and active member of First United Methodist Church of Sylva, and she was a lifetime member of the Sylva Garden Club. She loved working in her yard that was always beautiful and in bloom throughout the summer. Her most special times were spent entertaining family and friends at their home in Webster and on the mountain at Pilot Grove. Polly was considered a beautiful southern lady.
