Dorothy Yake

Obituary of Dorothy Yake

Dorothy Yake, age 93, passed away on October 4, reuniting with her husband, Everett, the love of her life! Even though they met later in life they were blessed with over 40 years and shared many wonderful memories together. They even shared the same birthday, with him being 10 years older than her. After his passing in 2012, she made a point of telling anyone she talked to what a wonderful husband she had been blessed with and how much she missed him.

Dot was born on December 13, 1926, in the Little Canada community of Tuckasegee, NC, the daughter of the late Ralph and Nannie Broom. From her first job at the hosiery mill in Brevard, NC, to working at Bon Marche’ and Steadman Uniforms in Asheville, NC, she always took great pride in her talents as a seamstress. Through the years she was always ready to fix or make anything for family. Even after leaving the workforce she continued doing alterations out of her home up until her and Everett decided to retire and move back to Little Canada in 2001.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Opal, Luther, Freeman, Don, Lloyd and Leonard.

She is survived by her brother, Dwight Broom, and wife, Mildred, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with several great-great nieces and nephews. With her love of the little ones, a visit from any of them made her day a bright one! She will always be remembered for her spunk, wit and quick comebacks and will be missed by all!

Due to Covid a private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday October 7, at 2:00 pm
