Obituary of Bruce Jones

David “Bruce” Jones, age 81 of Sylva, NC. passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020.   He was born on October 11, 1939, in Darrington, WA to the late Jesse Van Jones and Mary Girlie (nee Henry) Jones.

Bruce was a US Army Veteran and was Director of Waterworks for the Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority (YCUA).  He was a member of various civic and service organizations, including, Optimists International, Knights of Pythias, Moose Lodge, and Jaycees  

He enjoyed his church and serving the Lord, traveling, fishing, golfing, playing cards, stamp collecting, listening to Johnny Cash, and watching Westerns. In addition to his many pastimes, Bruce had a great sense of humor and especially loved his time with family and friends. 

Bruce will be dearly missed by his children, Robert “Bob” Jones, Nan (Don) Asher, Jeri Anderson; brother, William (Renee) Jones; grandchildren, Andrew (Lauren), Bree (Dan), David (Christina), Kate; great-grandchildren, Leia, Jayden, Jack, Kyler, Asia, and Kahlan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Sandra Sue (Murphy) Jones; sister, Mary Cecil; and daughter-in-law, Helen Jones.

The family will receive friends 5PM-7PM, Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva, NC.  A Funeral Service will be held at 1PM, Friday, November 6, at Love's Chapel United Methodist Church, 41 Lovedale Rd, Sylva, with Rev.John Patterson, officiating.  Interment will follow at Henry Cogdill Cemetery.
