Obituary of Jack Donald Nowlin
Jack Donald Nowlin, age 86, of Highlands, NC, went to be with our Lord Thursday, November 12th, 2020. Jack was born June 14th (Flag Day), 1934 in Roscommon, MI to the late Donald and May (Durante) Nowlin.
Jack was an Army Veteran who served as Tank Commander at Fort Knox, KY and, afterwards, joined the Army Reserves in Broward County, FL where he trained fellow soldiers to shoot at the Armory's firing range. Jack loved hunting w/ his family and friends during deer season. Likewise, he enjoyed deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico . Jack's lifetime career was building homes. Even after retirement, he built a huge cat center in Cullowhee, NC for a dear friend known to many as Catman II. While Jack had many friends, he always claimed, "My best friend is a carpenter."
Jack will be dearly missed by his son, James Robert Nowlin of Wilton Manors, FL. and his daughter and son-in-law, Jacqui Jean (Nowlin) Rowe and James Rowe, Jr. of Tuckasegee, NC.
Jack is survived by his sister,Gloria (Nowlin) Hemingway and her husband Larry Hemingway. Furthermore, he was blessed w/ three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and too numerous to count nephews, nieces and cousins of four generations.
Jack is preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, his late wife, Jerrie (Westfall) Nowlin and his youngest sibling, George 'Dean' Nowlin.
A Memorial Luncheon is scheduled for Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the Glennville, NC VFW at 1:00 pm. and immediately following a Memorial Service at 3:00 pm located at the Glennville Wesleyan Church, officiated by Reverend Ralph Campbell. Flowers may be sent to both locations. Donations sent directly to organizations aiding Veterans w/ Parkinson's Disease are appreciated.
On June 14th,2021, there will be a Military Memorial Burial at Watson Cemetery, located at 150 Lakeview Road in Tuckasegee, NC at 11:00 am. There will be a Memorial Picnic immediately following at the Little Canada Recreation Park also located in Tuckasegee, NC
