Obituary of Larry Franklin Buchanan

Larry Franklin Buchanan, age 76 of Sylva, NC. passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020.   He was born on July 17, 1944 in Jackson County to the late Robert and Hazel (nee Sutton) Buchanan.

He was a US Army Veteran who served in Korea and at Fort Gordon, GA. Larry was a policeman, counselor, and locksmith whose work served him in many areas, such as the Augusta and Sylva Police Departments, Marion State Prison, Federal Prisons in Memphis TN, Oxford AL, and Leavenworth KS.   He retired as the chief security specialist for the Midwest region in Kansas City KS.  He then went on to become head locksmith for UNC. After retiring from UNC he began working in the office at Performance Automotive Repair in Sylva alongside his son. He enjoyed working on hot rods, fishing, collecting coins, spending time with his grandchildren and traveling to Myrtle Beach for beach concerts. 

Larry will be dearly missed by his children, Gregg Buchanan, Amanda (Mark) Atkins; siblings, Gale (Bryan) Taule, Steve (Martha) Buchanan; grandchildren, Tristan, Lainey, and Gentry as well as several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends 2:00pm-4:00pm, Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva. Graveside services will be held at 1:30pm Monday, December 14, at East Fork Cemetery, Sylva, with Rev. Eddie Stillwell. officiating.
