An avid reader, Darlous enjoyed books of many different genres. She loved gardening and canning and working in her flowers when she was able. She embraced the Appalachian traditions of her time and was an inspiration to many. She loved her family and spending time with them most of all.  Darlous was a member of Deitz Memorial Baptist Church, and she enjoyed a spiritual and close relationship with God.
