Obituary of Walter Lee Young

Walter Lee Young, age 79 of Sylva, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. He was the husband of Wilma Ashe Young and the son of the late Herbert and Nora Young.

Walter was a member and deacon at New Hope Baptist Church. He retired as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry. Walter dearly loved his family. He loved to fish and to work with wood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Walter is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wilma Young, two sons; Darrin and David Young and David's wife, Tracy; one granddaughter, Shay Shapiro and her husband, Jesse. Also surviving are one sister, Gladys Webb and her husband Steve; one brother, Jack Young and his wife Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Ernie Jamison, Mike Moore, and Earl Holden officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
