Obituary of Julius Otto "Abe" Kerper

Julius O. “Abe” Kerper, age 89 of Whittier NC, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 1, 2021.   He was born on December 30, 1931, in Abington PA, to the late Earl and Gertrude (Von Stetten) Kerper.

 

Upon graduating from Ambler High School in PA, Abe entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  After his honorable discharge, he served as Manager of Toys-R-Us and Playtown–Kiddie City in Norristown PA; Jenkintown Hobby Shop in  Jenkintown PA; and Pic-N-Save in St. Augustine FL.  He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 248 in Glenside PA, where he served as Adjunct  & 9th District Commander.  Abe was an avid train lover along with building ships.  He built train displays with trains, plants, houses, etc. He was a great woodcrafter.

 

Abe will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Susanne (Lance); sons, Theodore, George; daughters, Jennifer (Michael) Hunter, Sandi (Jeffrey) Lewis; grandchildren, Megan (Cole) Wiesner, Georgie (Collin) Hart, K.K. Kerper, Michael Beach, Matthew Beach, Bella Kerper; and great-grandson, Liam.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Barbara J. Doriano. 

 

Private cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva NC.  A Celebration of Abe’s Life will be held in St. Augustine, FL, and announced at a later time.
