Obituary of Myrtle Irene Green
Myrtle I. Brooks Green, 89, got to go home Wednesday morning January 6, 2021.
Born June 21, 1931 to the late John Dillard and Stella Gunter Brooks, she was a lifelong resident of the Barkers Creek Community in Jackson County, where she lived in the same house for 85 years.
Myrtle worked at Skyland Textile for several years before becoming the caregiver for her mother. After her mother's death, Myrtle worked for the Jackson County School System. where she was a lunchroom cook. She loved to raise a big garden in which she would always plant a row of flowers. She loved to cook and bake and could be found many times at the Rockdale Baptist Church Fellowship Hall helping prepare a meal for the Church or someone in need. Myrtle loved her Church, she worked at the Vacation Bible School and was Church janitor for several years.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Green, her brothers; Arthur, Walter, Abe, Carl and Lon, her sisters; Birdie Estes, Geneva Parris, Janet Jones and Fannie Mae Elders.
She is survived by her son Mark (Kitty) Brooks of Sylva
Grandson Jake (Christan) of Whittier
Great Granddaughter Stella Kate
numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held outdoors 2:00 pm Sunday January 10, 2021 at the Rockdale Baptist Church Fellowship Hall with the Revs. Delos Blanton, Bobby Downs and Randy Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Barkers Creek Cemetery. The family asks that out of respect for all that attend to please wear a mask and practice social distancing while at the Service. Pallbearers will be Jake Brooks, Mike Brooks, Greg Brooks, David Brooks, Charles Brooks and Randy Brooks.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Barkers Creek Cemetery Fund, c/o Doris Brooks, 277 Beachtree Rd, Whittier, NC 28789.
Myrtle will be missed by all her family and friends and the family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Skyland Care Center for all the love and care while she was a resident there.
