Obituary of Jane Ann Scanlon

Jane Semesco Abshire Scanlon, 86 of Port St. Lucie FL, joined our heavenly father on March 14, 2021. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Louise and Charles Semesco, her three sons Chuck, Barry and Kris Abshire and her brother Ampy Semesco.  She is survived by her loving daughter Jennifer Abshire (Janet), grandchildren Amy Hanson, Katie Abshire, Erica Abshire, Kristopher Abshire, along with five great grandchildren.

Jane was raised in the small town of Belle WV and graduated from Dupont High School where she was an award winning majorette.  She had dreams of becoming a nurse.  She completed one year of nursing school before the joys of motherhood called her name loudly on four different occasions.  Even though she had numerous jobs throughout her life, her most important and rewarding one was being called Mother. 

Anyone who knew Jane, knew she was a fiercely independent and a highly intelligent woman.  She inspired others with her can do attitude and her keen level of ingenuity.  There was nothing she couldn’t do or fix once she put her mind to it.  She had a quick wit and a response to any situation or problem.  It was in Port St Lucie FL that she found her home, her church and her best friends (secret sisterhood of sisters).  Jane loved to host weekly gatherings for her special friends, where they ate, played cards and shared many laughs.    

As a single married parent, Jane did an amazing job as a mother, mentor and set a positive example for her children each day.  She will be missed by many.  Rest now Mother, your work here is done.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Addie Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to AWAKE or the Community Table.
