Obituary of Eliza Mae Evans

Eliza Mae Thompson Evans, age 94 of Sylva, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 3, 2021 . Eliza Mae was born on May 2, 1927,  in Jackson County, to the late Ennis and Bertha Thompson. She loved the outdoors and loved working in her garden and flowers. She also enjoyed reading. Eliza Mae was a member of Love’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Eliza Mae is survived by daughters, Lela Elizabeth Buchanan of Sylva, Linda Youngblood (Don) of Glenoma, WA; son, Rev. Jerry T. Evans (Joyce) of Reidsville, NC; brother, Clarence A. Thompson (Shirley) of Morocco, IN; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Eliza Mae is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William Thomas (Tom) Evans; sisters, Gladys Wilson, Francis Turpin, Mildred Moody, and Anna Lou Conard; brother, Gene Thompson; half-brother, Dewitt Thompson; and half-sisters, Amy Jones and Bessie Dempsey.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, July 7, 2021 in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services, with Rev. Jerry Evans officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM -2:00PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harris Palliative and Hospice Care.
