Obituary of Julian Edward Bates

Julian Edward Bates, age 55 of Tuckasegee NC, passed away on Sunday July 4, 2021.   He was born on March 28, 1966, in Transylvania County, to James Edward and Dorothy Gibson Bates.

Julian loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, and cooking.  He was a member of Charley’s Creek Baptist Church; he also attended Promise Land Baptist Church.  He loved to give his testimony by ministering to other people.  Julian showed his generosity by donating to Operation Smile.

He will be dearly missed by his parents; loving fiancée of 6 years, Amy Keith; sisters, Teresa (Ray) Newman of Franklin, Martha (Keith) Lang of Vale NC, JoAnn (Michael) Brown of Tuckasegee, Margie (Frank) Dunn of Cherokee, Debbie (Randy) Bates of Tuckasegee, April (Michael) Bates of Tuckasegee; brother, Conrad Bates of Tuckasegee; 11 nieces; 6 nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lester and Flonnie Bates, Lawrence and Bertha Gibson, and nephew, Christopher Bates.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM-8:00PM on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva NC.  A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Bates Cemetery, Tuckasegee NC.
