Obituary of Jon Russell Rice

Jon Russell Rice, 67 of Sylva, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. Jon was born on June 17, 1954, to the late Robert E. Rice and Elizabeth J. Magee (Betty Rice).

Jon was part of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and the class of ’72 Fisher High School Alumni. Jon enjoyed going camping and doing outdoor activities during his free time. He was faithfully devoted to his family and friends. Jon attend East LaPorte Grace Community Church.

Jon is survived by his step-daughter, Alina Shevchenko of Raleigh, NC; sister, Robin Rice Davis of Urbana, IL; brother, Richard Rice of Aledo, TX. He is also survived by nieces, Nicole Kingery of Urbana, IL, Miranda Kingery Czerwonka of Tuscola, IL, Rebeka Levy of Fort Worth, TX, and Kendra Vartuli of Austin TX; grand-nieces, Cheyenne Toney, and Emily Czerwonka.

In addition to his parents, Jon is preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence R. and Elizabeth S. Rice; and John F. and Irene E. Glawe.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at East LaPorte Grace Community Church in Cullowhee, NC. Pastor David Zachary will be officiating.
