Obituary of John Russell Cagle

John Russell Cagle, “Russ”, age 63, of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away on September 13, 2021 due to complications from Covid-19. Russ was a native of Jackson County, born in Sylva, NC on July 1, 1958.  For the past 25 years, he resided in Hiawassee enjoying the beautiful North Georgia area.

Russ was preceded in death by his father, William “Baldy” Cagle and his mother, Marie (Sherrill) Cagle. 

Russ loved his country, instilled in him by his parents, and this love for America stayed with him all his life.  He had a long career in the car business building a vast network of close friends within the automobile industry.  He enjoyed hosting friends at his house and taking them on pontoon boat rides around Lake Chatuge.  He was happy just spending time with his family and friends. 

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Wendy Cagle, one son, Dustin Deitz, two nephews Trent (Amber) Cagle and Matthew Cagle and one great nephew, Brayden Cagle.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 to 6:00PM followed immediately by a memorial service beginning at 6:00PM on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home in Hiawassee, Georgia.  The family asks that attendees please wear a mask for everyone’s safety.
