Obituary of Thelma Dills

Thelma "Granny" Dills, age 93, of Cullowhee, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Mabel Bumgarner.

Thelma was a member of Black Mountain Baptist Church. She retired from Western Carolina University after thirty-six years. Granny loved to cook, loved her flowers and her garden, and dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by two husbands, Roscoe Bryson and Fred Dills; one son, Roy Bryson; two daughters, Hilda Tollie and Edith Hicks; two grandchildren, Douglas and Stacy Broom; and several nieces and nephews.

Thelma is survived by three daughters; Evelyn (Carroll) Broom, Ethel (John) Watson, and Carolyn (Tim) Ellis. Thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021, in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with Rev. Roger Stewman and Rev. Jason Broom officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
