Obituary of Elizabeth Anne Traufield
Elizabeth Anne Macdonald Traufield,85, of Whittier, was born in Nonsuch, Port Maria, Richmond County, in the parish of St. Mary’s in Jamaica West Indies, May 23, 1927 to Ronald and Sara Cover Young Macdonald. Elizabeth made her peaceful transition on May 15, 2013. She is survived by daughter, Laura Kranz, son, Claude Traufield, beloved niece Barbara Macdonald Broughton; grandchildren Tanya and Eli Traufield, Patrick M. Dooley and Sonia Lopez; great grandchildren Michael Traufield Gantz, Ashley Lopez, Tristan and Ty Traufield. She was predeceased by son David Richard Traufield.
Elizabeth lived in Jamaica until 1943 when her father died and she moved to Montreal, Canada, to live with her sister Kathleen who was in the Canadian Women’s Air Corps. After obtaining a Journalism degree, she was invited by her brother, Sir Herbert Macdonald, to move to Washington DC where she worked for the United Nations. In 1949, she married Richard Traufield of Brooklyn, New York and embarked on a 25 year adventure as an Air Force wife and mother. Liz was a reporter for Variety Entertainment Newspaper; publicist for Disney World; a founding member of the Orlando Press Club, Florida Motion Picture and Television Association, Liz Traufield Enterprises, Inc., and International Visitors Center at Orlando International Airport in conjunction with her dear friend Alma Gray of Winter Park, Florida. In 2006, she moved to Whittier, North Carolina, joined the Jackson County Senior Center Writer’s Group and conducted water color and acrylic painting classes there. She loved nothing more than seeing the gorgeous mountains and rivers of Western North Carolina, reminding her of Jamaica’s Blue Mountains and her ancestral Scottish homeland. Journalist, artist, jazz enthusiast and Fun Mom; her vitality, curiosity, joy, humor and love stimulated the lives of everyone blessed to know her.
A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday May 25 at The Open Door Center for Spiritual Living, with the Rev. Barbara Jefferys officiating. If attending the Services, the family is requesting in Elizabeths honor to please wear bright colors.
