Obituary of Elizabeth Jane Harris

ELIZABETH “BETTY” JANE HARRIS Glenville, North Carolina: Devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2013, after a valiant 2 year battle with cancer. Daughter of the late John Vandenberg and Jerene Medema Vandenberg . Betty was born in Princeton, New Jersey and graduated from Princeton High School in 1949. Former receptionist at Cedar Creek Racquet Club in Cashiers, North Carolina, Betty was Registrar at The Hun School of Princeton in the early 80’s and worked at Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla, and for many years at Camp Highlander in Mills River, North Carolina, supporting her husband in his role as Director. Betty was preceded in death by her sister Jerene Vandenberg Myrick. Betty is survived by her husband and best friend of 64 years, Leigh B. “Tim” Harris II; daughter Donna Harris Pope of Princeton, New Jersey; son Leigh B. Harris III and wife Mary Jane of Arden, North Carolina; daughter Dale Harris Sparacino and husband David of Hendersonville, North Carolina; son Timothy John Harris and wife Deana of Atlanta, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces and nephews and many friends. A Memorial of Betty’s life will be celebrated on July 13, 2013, at 1:00 PM, in St. Joseph’s Chapel on the campus of Christ School, 500 Christ School Road, Arden, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Betty’s name to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731. We heard the lion’s roar, and now she rests in peace…
