Obituary of Laurena Shelton

Laurena Shelton, age 95, of Sylva passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at Med West Harris in Sylva, NC. Mrs. Shelton was born November 9, 1917 in Jackson County, NC. She is the daughter of the late Baxter and Lozora (Alexander) Mathis. She lovingly took care of her home as a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her husbands Otis Broom and Jule Shelton, seven brothers and one sister two sons Carlos and Dave Broom one daughter Gladys Dillard and a granddaughter Hope Broom. Mrs. Shelton is survived by two daughters; Virginia Nations of Whittier, Rosemary Bates of Canton, GA, two sons; KW. Broom of Sylva, Nathan Broom of Ringold, GA, and two sisters; Della Henderson of Sylva, and Ella Mae Moss of Cashiers. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services. Family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 at the funeral home prior to the service. Reverend David Burch and Reverend Larry Nations will be officiating the service. Mrs. Shelton’s grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Burial will be in Broom Cemetery, Tuckasegee, NC. . .
