Obituary of Walter Burke Painter

Walter Burke Painter, Jr, 90. of Sylva, passed into Eternal Life Friday evening, July 26, 2013. Born in Jackson County to the late Walter Burke and Annie Frizzell Painter on November 7, 1922. Walter served with the US Army in WWII in the Asiatic- Pacific Theater and received 2 Bronze Service Stars as well as a Purple Heart. He retired from the Mead Corporation and was a member of Lovedale Baptist Church. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Conrad Painter. Walter is survived by his wife of 65 years Sue Hooper Painter of the home 2 Daughters- Sheila and her husband David Frizzell of Sylva Sherian and her husband Bill Lucchetta of Wilmington, Delaware 2 Brothers- Johnnie Painter of Sylva and Harrison Painter of Knoxville, TN 3 Sisters- Ruth Snyder, Doris Monteith and Mary Painter all of Sylva 2 Granddaughters – Brandi Frizzell and Kristi Lucchetta And one great grandson- Chandler Hensley, the pride of his life, also survive Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday July 29 at Lovedale Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Farmer, Dr.JD Grant and Ron Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens with Military Graveside rites conducted by the National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 PM Sunday evening at Appalachian Funeral Services. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Westcare Hospice of Sylva, 132 Sylva Plaza, Sylva, NC 28779, or to Lovedale Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 160 Lovedale Rd, Sylva, NC 28779. Pallbearers will be Freddie Beasley, Jason Beasley, Johnnie Painter, Brad Hensley, Odell Haskett and Carol Hall . .
