I remember you, Mary Ann, and how much fun you were to spend time with. Though Heaven applauds your arrival, you were one of a kind and you will be missed.

Mrs. Frye was my first teacher I had when I moved to Sylva and the Lord knew just what I needed when he put me in her class. Her Godly testimony was evidenced everyday in her care for me and my classmates. I have many fond memories of her and she will be greatly missed but I know she has gone on to her reward. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Frye. I have fond memories of her as a teacher. She had a sign in the classroom that said "Clean up, your mother doesn't work here" and Phillip was in the class and Phillip being Phillip said, "But my mom does work here." I thought she was going to kill him. My prayers and thoughts to the family.

Mary Ann was an example of a dedicated teacher, an involved and nurturing mother, and a loving wife. Her legacy will remain in the lives of her students, herfamily, and her community that she touched in so many ways. Mary Ann lived her Christian faith. Our prayers are especially with Gary and Phillip during this time.

When I first started my teaching career, it was in the "intermediate" pod at Fairview. Mary Ann had everything I needed, always...thumbtack, paperclip, WD40, Tylenol. If I needed it, she always smiled, opened her purse and said, "Here, I have that." We always joked on teacher training trips that we could face any unexpected challenge (flat tire, tsunami, anything) just as long as Mary Ann had her purse. Amazingly, she always had just what we needed. We taught different subjects, so we didn't share materials often. But what she did teach me were life lessons that have forever impacted my family: from this math teacher, I learned to immediately invest money in my retirement and to start a college fund for my children. I was young and didn't think I could afford to do that. Mary Ann convinced me that I couldn't afford not to do it.
Thank you, Mary Ann, for taking this new teacher under your wing. You certainly made a difference in my life.
