Obituary of Jessie Leola Brown

Jessie Leola Hopper Brown, age 94, of Cullowhee passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center in Black Mountain, NC. Mrs. Brown was born September 20, 1919 in Haywood County NC. She is the daughter of the late Semer and the late Margie (Mitchell) Hopper and was preceded in death by her husband Fred Brown and one sister and six brothers.. She was the oldest member of the Cullowhee United Methodist church. She is survived by; two daughters Dorothy and husband Ray Burnette of Marion, NC and Freddie Duncan of Gainesville, GA. Five grandchildren; Becky Pendley, Charles Duncan, Karen Duncan, Terrell Burnette, and Jesse Burnette,five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. One brother-in-law, Preloe Stanfield and several nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 16, 2013 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. David Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Gardens Cemetery in Sylva. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
