Obituary of William Lewis Davis

William Lewis Davis, age 73, of Sylva died Saturday, March 1, 2014. Mr. Davis was born March 2, 1940 in Darrington, WA. He is the son of the late John Glenn and the late Leona (Dillard) Davis. He married Jolene Jones. He was a retired maintenance worker from Western Carolina University’s Division of Facilities Management. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by one stepson and a grandson. He is survived by his wife: Jolene (Jones) Davis; two stepsons, Jeff Justice of Simpsonville, SC and Chuck Justice of Sylva; a step daughter, Lena Woods of Sylva, a sister Glenna Buchanan of Sylva, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He served in the US Army, and was a member of East Sylva Baptist Church, and the local Woodsmen of the World. He was a retired member of the Sylva Fire Department; enjoyed college football and basketball; and enjoyed working in his yard. A funeral will be held a East Sylva Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 4, at 8:00 pm, with Rev. Charles Dean and Rev. Reid Benson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery on Wednesday March 5 at 11:00 am. Pallbearers will be Stan McMahan, Tommy Allen, David Bowers, Jimmy Houston, Taylor Williams, and Jerry Queen.
