Dear Family of Victoria,
My wife Sharon and I are so sad to learn of Victoria' passing. Over the years, 2003-10, I worked with Victoria on many community projects. I was the Director of the Fine Art Museum at WCU. My impression of Victoria as a valiant community leader and activist, committed teacher, lover of learning, a major pillar of the community and advocate of truth and justice. Victoria was a very very special person. I am lucky to have known her. Her passing is a huge loss to the community – and her grand spirit will live on in all those whose lives she touched. You will be missed greatly Victoria!
Our deepest condolences, God Bless.

Tina, Words cannot convey the sadness we feel in the loss of your Mother. She was a wonderful, loving, kind, caring, generous soul. The cpunty has truly lost a great educator. Thanks to her my children have a book with a page about their Grandpa Alston's service in the Army. With all of her accomplishments in life, I pray that you find comfort in them as well as her unwaivering faith in the Lord. It's hard to let them go but you will be re-united with her and the remainder of our loved ones gone on to be with tbe Lord shortly. We love you and know we grieve with you although separated by distance.

We were saddened to hear the news of Victoria's passing. We only met her a couple of times, and it was only a few weeks ago when our paths last crossed, but she touched our hearts with her wisdom, her frank observations of life and her love of art. Blessings to Tina, and the rest of Victoria's family. We're thinking of you with love and blessings in this challenging time.

This was such a shock. My prayers go out to the family. I grew up around the Casey Family in Cullowhee, went to school with them, played at their house and worked with Victoria for many years at the telephone company. She was such a great person and will truly be missed by so many people. May she rest in peace.

Family: We are sadden by your sudden loss of your precious mother. We got to know Victoria when she started teaching at Log Cabin in 1978. Our daughter Sonya and son Darin were in school at that time. Every time I would see her she would ask about them as she taught them both. She made an impact on them and they never forgot her. I will remember her beautiful laugh and just that happy bubbly person she was. We are praying that God will hold you in His loving arms and give you peace through these next days, weeks and months to come. It will certainly be a void in your life but oh so many precious memories you have. Heaven is sweeter now.

I had the joy, and realized later in life it was more an honor and privilege, of having Ms. Casey (known at that time) for my 4th (at Log Cabin) AND 6th (at Smokey Mountain) grade years. She taught with such passion and empathy, and if you were paying attention, you picked up on it. And if you weren't paying attention, well...she wasn't afraid to point that out too. Ms. Casey was an amazing woman, impacting the world one student at a time. She did impact my life. I may have not realized it at the time, but because of her influence, I am the person I am today. If only there were more Ms. Casey's in this world. You will be forever in my memory and my heart Ms. Casey. My most sincere condolences to her family and friends. The world has lost a huge light.

Tina, I am so very sorry for your loss. Your Mother was a long-time friend of mine and I loved her dearly. The first time I met her was back in the '60s when your Aunt Irma, who was my dearest friend in high school, invited my family to have Thanksgiving dinner with hers. Irma was two years older than me and when she graduated I lost touch with the Casey family for a few years. But in 1970 your Mother was in my Spring Quarter swimming class at Western. Both of us were afraid of water and spent most of that time standing in the corner of the swimming pool dunking our heads underwater and teasing each other unmercifully! And that forged a lasting friendship. She persisted in calling me Norma Jean knowing it aggravated me - but oh how I wish I could hear that voice again! She was one of the most brilliant, talented and unique people I have ever known. She richly blessed my life and I will treasure her memory in my heart forever. Prayers for peace and comfort for you.

Tina,
I will forever miss walking into the store or walking into your mom's house and getting the usual "whatchu lookin' at Blondie!?". Whether as a teacher, a coach, a town member, or a second mother to so many, your mom has always been and will forever be a pillar in this community.
Your mom was so strong, feisty, independent, and pure hearted. They just don't make them like that anymore.
As hard as it may be, you know she is having the time of her life on the streets of gold, singing her songs and be-bopping along. God needed His angel a little more than you right now. It's never goodbye, but just a see you later. Have faith in His will and believe in His grace.
Love you, Cub, and Ms. McDonald.

The world has lost such a great lady who made such a huge impact on a small community. She will be greatly missed! So sorry for your loss Tina! Stay strong!

Tina and family,
Your mother was a wonderful teacher and friend. I will fondly remember her classroom antics of slapping board erasers together over anyone sleeping in class.
My mom, Sharon Bryson always called Ms McD "shorty" but they were both short and loved teasing each other!
She was a sweet, special person and will be missed by many.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I recently moved from the western North Carolina area out towards the east. During my time in Sylva at Fairview, Smoky Mountain Elementary, and Smoky Mountain High I had the privilege of having Ms. Mcdonald as my substitute. She was strict for sure but often had a good sense of humor about things. I was always wary of aggravating her and fearing her wrath. It all feels so silly now. I regret her passing. She was a great women who actually cared about what she did and had a unique soul all of her own. I may be gone from that area but I still have my memories and she will be in them.
God bless her and her family. My condolences.

Mrs. McDonald,
I remember through the years at Smoky Mountain Elementary we all heard stories of the meanest 7th grade teacher in the world she hollered threw things & got a hold of you. Come 7th grade I was absolutely terrified of you! I just knew the horror stories were true. Then I met you, my homeroom teacher. You made me laugh, you made me cry, you pissed me off. You threw erasers at me, markers & ocassionaly smacked me with a ruler & threatened me with a paddle. Thank you! Those two years being your student and athlete were ones of my best & you never forgot anything about me or what I was doing through all these years & you treated my son just the same. We are heartbroken you left us but as always we know you are right there with us watching talking & threatening right over us! Much love! Please say hello to Peaches, Scotty & Creighton for me. <3

Tina,
This is Krista Edwards' mom & I wanted you to know how sorry I am to hear about your mom. I sat with your mom almost 2 weeks ago at Harris Hospital as we both waited to be seen for preadmission. She shared with me that she would be having surgery and we talked about old times and of course our aches and pains from getting older. She was a great lady and I will be praying for you and your family. Stay strong and rely on your faith. Karen
