Obituary of Merwyn Lawrence Haney

Merwyn (Mert) Lawrence Haney, age 89, of Tuckasegee died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Memorial Campus of Asheville, NC. Mr. Haney was born November 9, 1924 in Wadsworth, OH. He is the son of the late Leslie L. and the late Estella (Brown) Haney and was preceded in death by one sister. He served in the Army. He was retired from Steel Case where he worked in quality control. Mert loved reading and riding his motorcycle. He is survived by his wife: Betty (Pittillo) Haney ; one son Steven Haney of Burlington, NC ; three daughters Sharon Vaught of Selmer, TN; Robin Bunting of Troy, NC and Terri Hollifield of Sylva; one brother Dean Haney of Montoursville, PA and one sister Ruth Hummel of Stow, OH. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday August 30, 2014 in the Wolf Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Riddle officiating. Burial will be in NC State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritans Purse.
