Obituary of JB Mathis

J B Mathis, age 67, of Tuckasegee died Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Med West Harris of Sylva, NC. A life long resident of Jackson County, JB was born March 15, 1947. He is the son of the late Anzel and the late Mary (Melton) Mathis. He worked as a laborer in the Christmas Tree industry. He was a member of Sols Creek Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors, hiking and hunting. He grew beautiful flowers and made a garden each year, everything he touched seemed to grow. In addition to his parents; JB was predeceased by brothers; Jamie and Willis Mathis, sisters, Betty Burrell, Jessie Mae Cochran, and Oma Lee Nicholson; and an infant brother and sister. He is survived by three brothers, LH and Herman Mathis of Tuckasegee, and Junior Mathis of Toledo, WA; and two sisters, Lois Harris of Castle Rock, WA, and Dicie Norris of Sylva. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 15 at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC with Rev. Johnny Norris officiating. Burial will be in Sols Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Tuckasegee. The family will receive friends two hours before the service at Appalachian. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Appalachian Funeral Services to help with final expenses. Pallbearers will be: Mark Mathis, Evan Norris, Sidney Burrell, Robby Middleton, James Middleton, and Travis Burrell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lynn Cochran, Dusty Middleton, Kenneth Broom, Harold Harris, Darrell Harris, and Kevin Mathis. .
