Obituary of Talmadge Carroll Mathis

Talmadge Carroll Mathis, age 63, of Tuckasegee died Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Westcare Harris. Talmadge was born October 21, 1951. A life long resident of Jackson County, he is the son of the late Talmadge Eldon and the late Margaret Isabelle (Alexander) Mathis. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Una Lee Luker and Rosie Trantham. He is survived by a brother, Earl and Waynefica Mathis of Cullowhee; sisters, Marie and Charles Owen, Wayne and Arlene Trantham, Tony and Tonya Franks, all of Tuckasegee, and Wanda McDaniel of Cleveland, GA; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 4 at Sols Creek Baptist Church, Sols Creek Road, Tuckasegee, NC with Rev. Dennis Burrell, Rev. Leonard Luker, and Rev. Steve Webb officiating. Burial will be in Mathis Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 3 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC. Pall Bearers are David Bennett, Carl Mathis, Craig Burrell, Hayse Nations, Roger Luker, Shane Love, Bronce Postell, Randy Luker, David Galloway and Cody Huff. Mr. Mathis will lie in state starting at 1:00 pm, prior to the funeral service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Appalachian Funeral Services to help with final expenses. .
