Obituary of Irene Lucy Bryson

Irene Coggins Bryson, 90, of Cullowhee passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at her home. Irene was born January 17, 1925 in Jackson County. She is the daughter of the late Ransom and Violet Jane (Mathis) Coggins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Houston Coggins; her husband, Bedford Bryson; and 3 brothers, Carl and Dee of Cullowhee, and Claude of Pine Creek. Irene happily spent her life caring for her family, her garden, and her flowers, all of which she loved dearly. She was a member of the Double Springs Church of God. Irene married Bedford Bryson in Clayton, Ga, on July 4, 1942, and together they have four great children: Dorothy Potts and Opal Douglas of Cullowhee, Bruce Bryson of the home, and Ray Bryson of Sylva. Also surviving are a sister, Pauline Stewart of Glenville; a brother, Luther Coggins of Cullowhee; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and friends too numerous to mention. A Funeral Service will be held 2:30 pm Sunday, February 8 at Double Springs Church of God on Cullowhee Mountain, with Revs. Jeremy Chapman and Johnny Norris officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 prior to the Service at the Church. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery. . .
