Obituary of Fisher Furman Bickerstaff

F.F. "Bick" Bickerstaff, 97, of Whittier, went to be with the Lord Monday May 4, 2015. A native of Montgomery, Alabama, he was the son of the late Fisher F. Sr. and Eula Hubbard Cone Bickerstaff. Bick was a 33rd degree Mason and a Life Member of the Blue Lodge, York Rite and Scottish Rite and Shrine. Past Sovereign of St. Sebastian Conclave. Order of the Red Cross of Constantine and had been inducted into the College of Viceroys and Senate of Sovereigns and a Member of the Royal Order of Scotland. A lifelong Member of the United Methodist Church he had served as Local Church Lay Leader, Waynesville District Lay Leader, Conference Laity Council, Laity Director of the Conference Brotherhood/Sisterhood and Certified Lay Speaker. As President of the World Methodist Council, Friends of the Museum, he attended meetings in Nairobi, Kenya and Singapore. He had served on the Given's Estates Board of Directors. He was a WWII Air Corps veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. His geological records are registered with Sons of the American Revolution. He is survived by his loving wife of 77 years Lorene A. Bickerstaff and by his children- John F. Bickerstaff (Mary) of Whittier, Virginia Bickerstaff West (Sherwood) of Bradenton, Fla., Karen Bickerstaff Harris (Wiley) of Whittier and Ben Edward Bickerstaff (Tawn) of Atlanta, GA. 12 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren also survive. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday May 8 at First United Methodist Church of Sylva. The family will receive friends prior to the Service from 10 until 11:00 am at the Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and all Masons as Honorary pallbearers. . .
