So many years have passed since 1963 when I was a freshman at Campbell studying Old Testament with Dr. Bunn. What a blessing I experienced. Not only did he awaken and clarify some doubts about the Holy Bible, he cared so much about his students beyond their performance in his classes. He was so approachable, willing to listen, and offer counsel. The lives he touched and influenced are more than can be imagined. God's blessings to his family.

I will always remember Dr Bunn visiting our home in Cullowhee when we moved here to welcome us after we visited First Baptist Church. Later, there were many long Deacon committee evening meetings, often with his words of wisdom bringing resolution and closure to discussions. He visited us again in 2007 when we began attending another church, and I'll never forget his description of forgiveness. John was truly a child of God as I will always think of him first as a Peacemaker.

I just want to tell you all that you have been in my thoughts and prayers for sometime now. I am Donna's sister, Dana. I met your dad once when they came to visit Steve and Donna in GA. He was a very kind man and I really enjoyed getting to know him and your mom. My son Brice went with Steve and Donna to NC one year at Thanksgiving just a few years back. Brice was treated very kindly by all. My family is blessed beyond measure to have Steve as part of our family. He is a good, kind and thoughtful man with a heart of gold and we thank God for him daily, thank you for sharing him with us. We will continue to keep you all in our prayers.

Dr.Bunn was among my top five educators from my lifetime in education. I was blessed to have had his Old Testament Prophets (Amos) course in the late 1960s. I think of him often, and I am guilty of retelling and corrupting more than one of his marvelous stories. My deepest sympathy and most gentle thoughts go to his family and his legion of friends who, I have no doubt, share my personal sense of loss.

We only heard of Dr. Bunn's death today and we were devastated. We got acquainted with him after his retirement from First Baptist in Sylva. In fact, he came several times to our Sunday School Classes at Cullowhee United Methodist and enlightened us with wonderful talks regarding the history of the Scriptures and his background in the Near East. We loved him dearly and will miss him. He truly was a man of God.

Words cannot express the deep sense of gratitude that we hold for the treasure encapsulated in Dr. Bunn. He was indeed in the image of God to us, because he took us in as "adoptive children" of sorts and imparted unfathomable wisdom and guidance to us. He demonstrated us a more excellent way that directs us to God. Not only was he our father figure and mentor, he was our beloved friend.
Mrs. Bunn and Family, we hold you close in prayers and ask that God, as the God of all comfort, sustain you, strengthen you, and cradle you close to Himself today and in the days ahead as you experience the immeasurable void created by Dr. Bunn's transition home to God.
We love you.

Dr. Bunn has truly lit up heaven with his presence. May the Lord help his family and our community cope with this enormous loss. He was a true Christian, a scholar, a teacher, a husband, a father, a mentor, a leader, a patriot, and had more common sense than most peope. We are all better for having him live in our community.
