Obituary of Alice Kay Walker

Alice Walker, age 81, of Sylva passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, she is the daughter of the late McKinley Davis and the late Ella Mae Nations Davis. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank Walker; a sister, Hilda Wilkes, a brother, Perry Davis, and a baby sister, Ruth Davis. Alice worked for many years as a seamstress, she loved sewing, and doing cross stitch. She was very talented, loved flower gardening, and loved animals. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, and the Jackson County Home Extension Club. Surviving are two daughters, Janet and Roy Neal Bishop of South Dakota, and Carolyn and Benny Frizzell of Sylva; five grandchildren, Teresa Henry, Cathy Powell, Amanda Colby, Amber and Luke Bishop; eight great-grandchildren, Sarah and Josh Henry, Camren Powell, Zachary Maxwell, Eric, Ethan, Alieya and Sam Bishop; a brother, Jim Davis of Sylva; and a sister, Lois Parker of Atlanta, GA. A memorial service will be held at Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva on Thursday, July 8 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Earl Holden officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Appalachian. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Barker's Creek Cemetery Fund, 277 Beechtree Rd. Whittier, NC 28789. . .
