Obituary of Scotty Bruce Chastain

Scotty Bruce Chastain, 67, of Sylva passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015. A U.S. Army Veteran who served in Viet Nam, he was a native of Gaston County, and was the son of the late Warren and Aileen Chastain. He was a simple, honest man who loved God and his family. He was loved and admired by countless people for his genuine, godly character and abundant wisdom. He was a hard worker who spent his retirement from the police department in continued service to others. He loved spending time outdoors enjoying creation. He was a cowboy at heart who loved "The Duke." As we picture him riding off into the sunset to meet his Maker, his loving words will echo in our hearts. He will be forever missed. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by Dillard Treadaway, a sister Patsy Johnson and by his brother George Alan Chastain. He is survived by his wife of 10 years Debra Postell Chastain His children- Nicholas Scott Chastain of San Francisco, Melissa Chastain Martin (Brandon) of Gastonia and Scotty Warren Chastain (Brandy) of Bessemer City, Stepson Andrew Bryson of Ft. Carson, Colorado and Stepdaughter Samantha Bryson of Sylva Grandchildren- Anna McKenzi, Jackson Lee and Benoar Elijah Martin, Mason Scott and Gavin Warren Chastain Brother- Odell Chastain (Virginia) of Bryson City, Sister- Ollie Brendle (Wayne) of Bryson City, Brother- Ronnie Chastain of Hayesville and sister in law Margaret Chastain. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Funeral Services will be held 7:00 PM Friday August 7 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Jeff Powell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 prior to the Service at the Funeral Home.
