Obituary of Hugh Phillip Thompson

Hugh Phillip Thompson, age 62, of Tuckasegee died Saturday, October 17, 2015 at VA Medical Center of Asheville, NC. Mr. Thompson was born May 14, 1953 in Jackson County.. He is the son of the late Candler Fred and the late Helen (Gass) Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Melanie Brook Thompson, a grand daughter, Melanie Lorene Stoeppelwerth, and a brother, John Thompson. He served over 21 years in the Marine Corps. He later owned and operated several convenience stores in the Sylva area. He loved boating, fishing, traveling and playing with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife: Kathie (Moore) Thompson; daughters, Trinity Lorene Thompson and Tom (TJ) Polusa, Miranda Heather Thompson and Scott Denson, and Brittany Noelle Thompson; grandchildren, Savannah Brooke, Thomas Hugh, Bradley Alex and Holley Noelle Pokusa, Sage Maddox Stoeppelwerth, and Rebecca Leann Denson; brothers, James Robert and Linda Thompson, and Joseph Paul Thompson; and various nieces and nephews. Mr. Thompson's funeral will be held at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC on Thursday, October 22 at 10:00 am with Rev. Wayne Caldwell officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the North Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends at Appalachian on Wednesday, October 21, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. . .
