Obituary of Mary Elenora Owen

Mary Elenora Owen, age 77, of Sylva died Friday, October 23, 2015. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mary was born May 31, 1938. She is the daughter of the late Hobson and the late Lela (Wiggins) Monteith. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Jeff Owen. Mary was employed by Jackson County Public Schools and taught English at Pisgah High and Sylva Webster High and also in Wilmington .She also worked as hostess at the Dillsboro Smoke House. She is survived by sons, Alton Owen of Wilmington and Steve Owen of Statesville; and grandchildren, Drew, Charity, Brett, Jessica, Brittany and Dylan Owen. Mary loved to read, work in her flowers, travel and enjoyed theater and musical shows. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 25 at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC with Rev. Reed Benson and Rev. Steve Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Old Field Cemetery, Sylva. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
