Obituary of Robert Ensley Gunter

Robert Ensley Gunter, age 81, of Bryson City, died November 2, 2015 at Mission Hospital of Asheville, NC. Mr. Gunter was born January 28, 1934 in Swain County. He is the son of the late Rev. George and the late Bertha (Medford) Gunter. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Monteith, a daughter, Deborah Joy Gunter, and a great grandchild. He was employed in construction and most recently worked for Drexall in Whittier, NC. He was a member and deacon of Holly Springs Baptist Church in Bryson City. He was an avid fisherman. He is survived by a daughter, Teresa and Ray Stevens of Whittier; sons Bobby and Bonnie Gunter of Cullowhee, and Jeffrey and Patsy Gunter of Whittier; grandchildren, Heather and Rocky Stillwell, Jared and Amber Stevens, Candice and Brandon Stanley, Jordan and Maddy Stevens, and Holly Gunter; two step granddaughters, Lori and Crissi Childers; great grandchildren, AmyRae, EmmaLea, Harley, Hudson, Layla, and Gunner; and two dear friends, Betty Kinsland and Edith Monteith. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 4 at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC with Rev. Tim Barker and Rev. Matt Shuler officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 4 from noon until 2:00 pm two hours prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Lauada Cemetery, Bryson City.
