Obituary of Hedy Judith White

Hedy Judith White 69, passed away Thursday morning, November 10, 2011 at Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC. She is the daughter of the late Irving and Lillian (Duetch) Bergida. She graduated Midwood High School in Brooklyn in 1959. She earned her bachelor's degree from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY in 1963. She earned her master's degree in social psychology from California State University in Northridge in 1978 and then earned a doctorate in cognitive psychology from Claremont Graduate School in California. She completed post-doctoral fellowship in cognitive neuropsychology at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1983.Before coming to Western Carolina University some of her past teaching experiences include Pomona College in California and California State University in Los Angeles. She retired from Western Carolina University as psychology professor in 2006. She was a Senior Editor with Hawthorn Books in New York ( 1967-1970). She was Associate Editor with Prentice-Hall in Englewood Cliffs, NJ ( 1965-1967). She was a Member of the American Psychological Association. She was a recipient of Western Carolina University College of Education and Allied Professions University of North Carolina Board of Governors Award for Superior Teaching in 1998. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lionel White and her daughter Vanessa White. She is survived by her sister- Phyliss Lassman and her husband Fred of New Jersey and 2 nephews A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Cullowhee United Methodist Church Dr. Frank Padgett will officiate.
