Obituary of Gwendell Leona Burrell

Gwendell Leona Burrell, age 68, of Sylva died Friday, November 13, 2015 in Sylva. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mrs. Burrell was born November 19, 1946. She is the daughter of the late Hobert Brown and the late Margaret (Blanchard) Troxell. Gwen worked for many years as secretary for Canada Elementary School. She worked as a landscaper and loved landscaping and gardening. She loved reading and learning, and doing arts and crafts. She was an excellent baker and often baked cakes. She loved spending time with her husband and pets. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Estes Burrell, a daughter, Rhonda and Lee Williams; a granddaughter, Chasity Williams; sisters, Barbara and Frank Clark, Virginia Smith, Deborah and Sonny Henry; a brother, David and Cindy Brown; and special friends, Joan Beutell, Holly Phillips, and Kassandra Fisher. A memorial service will be held at the Tuckasegee Methodist Church on Sat. Dec. 5, 2015 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Jeff Powell and Rev. Jim Ed Powell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Appalachian Funeral Services to help with final expenses or to Lifepath Hospice, 68 Hospital Drive Sylva, NC 28779. . .
