Obituary of Robert Francis Martyn

Robert "Bob" Martyn Sr., age 73 of Cullowhee died peacefully Wednesday, November 23,2011 at his home after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born June 18, 1938 in Howell, MI, the son of the late Robert E Martyn and Helen Tapon White. Bob served his country in the US Army, retired from Chem-Trend after 27 years of service, owned and operated Beetles BBQ in Bryan, Texas and settled in North Carolina in 1993. Bob enjoyed helping others, always "on-call" for anyone needing any type of assistance; spending time outdoors and enjoying a round of golf with close friends. Beloved husband of Carolyn Reichle-Pope Martyn whom he married in 1981. Loving father of Chip Martyn, Lynn Martyn, Jodi Pilgrim, Judi Beckler, Michele Kline and Monica Jamroch. Bob "Papa" treasured his grandchildren: First born Nicole Marie Pope (fiance Michael Freed). Bob credited Nicole with saving his life in 1990, he also shared his Papa-love with Kara, Noah, Eric, Zachary, Jolie, Ashley and Bryanna and 4 great grandchildren. He leaves brother Ronald (Janet) Martyn and sister Sharron (Garrett) Benoit.. Bob also leaves so many friends whose lives he touched in a positive way, never wanting any recognition for what he did. A celebration of Bob's life will take place in Cullowhee at a later date. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Community Table of Sylva, NC or the Med-West Hospice. .
