Obituary of Charlene Ogle Luciani

. Charlene T. Luciani, age 77, of Sylva died on Wednesday Jan. 20, 2016 at Harris Regional Hospital from acute pancreatitis. Charlene Ogle Griffin was born May 1, 1938 in Memphis, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Mozelle Ogle Griffin and the late William Vivian Griffin Jr. Although born in Tenn. she grew up in FL. and lived there until 1977 when she moved to Arizona. She moved to Ohio in 1980 and retired in 2003 to return to the Smokey Mountains where her mother, brother and she spent their summers in Horse Cove near Highlands. In her youth she participated professionally in synchronized swimming in Miami Beach, FL. At Miami Beach Senior High School she participated in basketball, softball, track, volleyball and the cheerleading squad. After graduating in 1956 she married and worked in a veterinarian's office until she had her first child. She then worked in a surgeon's office until she had her second child. She moved to Williston FL. in 1965 to a small farm where she raised dogs, cattle, and horses. There she worked for the University of FL. College Of Medicine in Pathology and Continuing Medical Education. She developed a dog training school and showed horses in riding competitions. In 1977 she moved to Arizona and worked as an office manager for a private practice. Charlene moved to Ohio in 1980 where she worked as Executive Director of Dayton Clinical Oncology Program, as Coordinator for the Regional Cancer Resource Center at Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, Creator of Public TV programs "Cancer Answers" and "Doctor On Call" for the Dayton area, Director of the Kettering Breast Evaluation Center, Special Events Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Coordinator of the Cancer Education Program of the Combined Health District of Montgomery County until she retired. Charlene enjoyed cooking and eating gourmet food, quilting, hand sewing and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, the late William Vivian Griffin III MD of Canoga Park, CA. and two sons, William Franklin Hahn of Tucson, AZ and Timothy Lee Hahn of Lakeland FL. She is survived by her partner in life, Jack S. Gruber MD, two grandsons, Austin Lee Hahn of Lakemont GA. and Timothy Lee Hahn Jr. of Suwanee Ga., and by one great grandson, Jaxon Lee Hahn of Suwanee GA. She was buried in the family plot at Orange Hill Cemetery in Williston Fl. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in her memory.
