Obituary of Gladys Josephine Sutton

Gladys Josephine Sutton, age 92, of Sylva died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Skyland Care Center of Sylva. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mrs. Sutton was born May 6, 1923. She is the daughter of the late Dock and the late Annie (Wyatt) Nations. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Marshall Henry Sutton, sisters, Beunie Jones, Geneva Jones, Olga Barker and Verda Parker; brothers, Berlin, Seab, Ira, and Elis Nations; and two grandsons, Christopher Setzer and Blake Sutton. Gladys worked as a sales clerk in many local department stores: Bowers of Sylva, and Bradley's of Dillsboro. She was the oldest member of Jarrett Memorial Baptist Church. She loved to crochet, work in flowers and gardening, and loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Sutton (Kenneth) Setzer; sons Dallas Henry (Judy) Sutton and Wayne Nicholas Sutton; grandsons, Brian and Barry Setzer, Warren Scott Sutton and Craig Vernon Sutton; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held 2:30 pm on Wednesday, January 27 at Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva, NC with Rev. Larry Nations and Rev. Corey Boone officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Field Cemetery, Sylva. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 27 one hour prior to service. .
