Obituary of Hampton Johnson

John Hampton Johnson, age 82, of Sylva died Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Harris Regional Hospital. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, John was born April 24, 1933. He is the son of the late John B. and the late Missouri (Buchanan) Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Burnell, Ben, T.A., and Billy Johnson, and a sister, Dixie McCall. He worked as a landscaper for the NC Dept. of Transportation. He loved to hunt, fish, work, and do yardwork. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise (Hall) Johnson; one son, Doug (Cathy) Johnson, two grandsons, Michael (Crystal) Johnson and Travis (Tanya) Johnson; four great grandchildren; and four sisters, Pat Allen, Mary Holland, Wilhelmina Biddix, and Wanda Donaldson. The funeral will be held on Sunday, February 7, at 3:30 pm in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva, with Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating. Burial will follow in Parris Cemetery.
