Obituary of Lucille H. Bryson

Lucille Hooper Cabe Bryson, 93, of Sylva passed away Sunday May 1, 2016. Lucille was born December 25, 1922 in the Moses Creek Community of Caney Fork. Her parents were Ellen and Vance Hooper. She was the youngest of nine children and is the last surviving member of the family. Her siblings were Newell, Roscoe, Carr, Effie Stephens, Kenneth, Faye, Dean, Martin and Mary Medford. Lucille received her education at Johns Creek Elementary School, Cullowhee High School and Western Carolina Teachers College (now Western Carolina University), where she received a degree in elementary education. After graduating from college she taught school for one year on the Navaho Reservation in Arizona after which she taught for two years in Winston-Salem, NC. She later taught for several years in Jackson County retiring from Fairview Elementary School. Lucille met and married Winston Cabe and moved back to Jackson County where she remained. Lucille and Winston were the parents of a daughter named Martha who passed away July13, 2002 and by twin sons, Bruce and Brian who now live and work in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Winston passed away October 31, 1955. Lucille married Jennings Bryson on May 3, 1960 and moved to Sylva where they lived until his death August 31, 1975. She was a member of Sylva First Baptist Church and of the Ruth Sunday School Class of which she was an assistant teacher. She is survived by her sons; Bruce and his wife Lenoir with their daughters, Deatra Soop, Tonyea and Andrea. Brian and his wife Charlotte and their son Winston and a daughter Julie Jo. She is also survived by Martha's sons; Blake and Nathan Queen and 11 Great Grandchildren and many relatives too numerous to list. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday May 4, at Sylva First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Old Field Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, May 3, from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva. In lieu of flowers it is suggested that donations be made to the charity of one's choice. .
